MANILA - After another disappointing campaign this conference, fans of the Petron Blaze Boosters are certainly one of the most upset.
In fact, some of them even think that the management is not doing anything to further the cause of their beloved team.
“Wala akong nadidinig masyado sa team namin. Yung ibang koponan na eliminated na, you will notice may mga import preference na for next conference,” said Paul Samson, a longtime Petron fan from Davao City.
“Sana naman magkaruon ng magandang campaign next conference,” he said.
But don’t look now, Solar Sports Desk learned that the Blaze Boosters are silently preparing for war.
A source bared that the Boosters are eyeing former Best Import awardee Arizona Reid as one of their prospects for the Governors’ Cup.
Reid lead the Rain or Shine Elastopainters to the semis of the 2011 Governor’s Cup, where he averaged 28.67 points, 15.42 rebounds and 4.17 assists per game.
As he was not tapped by Rain or Shine in the 6-5 height limit conference, Petron will not have problems acquiring the 2007 US NCAA Big South Conference Player of the Year.
Solar Sports Desk was also given a list of other import prospects of Petron that includes former Miami Heat forward Bobby Jones, Rio Grande Vipers star DJ Kennedy, University of Texas San Antonio wingman John Millsap and veteran international campaigner Jimmy Baxter.
The same source denied reports that the Petron management is looking at Governors’ Cup champion import Anthony Grundy.
“We would want to bring him (Grundy) back kaso masyado siyang maliit para sa third conference,” said the source of the 6-1 Grundy.
Even former reinforcement Gabe Freeman is not in the list as he was once measured at ¼ inch more than the 6-5 limit of the season-ending tourney.
Petron will decide on import choice in the next few days or after coach Olsen Racela returns from the States.
The Blaze Boosters return to practice on June 3.
