Opening Game: Gilas-Pilipinas to face Croatia in 2014 FIBA World Cup's first match

MANILA -- The Philippine men's national basketball team, collectively known as Gilas-Pilipinas, will begin their 2014 FIBA World Cup campaign against Croatia in the very first match of the 17th edition of the tournament.

The schedule was released by the international basketball governing body on Thursday, April 10, Manila time.

Bracketed under Group B, Gilas-Pilipinas will face the Croatians in Sevilla on August 30 at 12:30 PM (Spain time). During the same time, Group C members Ukraine and Dominican Republic will face off in Bilbao.

The following day, August 31, the Philippines will play Greece at 8 PM. Then a match with the third-ranked Argentina will take place on September 1, 5:30 PM.

September 2 will be Group C's scheduled rest day.

The Philippines, then, meets Puerto Rico on September 3, 1:30 PM. Before they round out their elimination round campaign against Senegal on September 4, 2 PM.

If Gilas advances to the final phase, game will take place in Barcelona and Madrid from September 6-14.
